Kenchanoor Somshekar Shetty launched Kundapura Chicken Masala under the brand name Nana Shetty Masalas in the year 1987 in Kundapura. A Rajyotsava awarde in the field of Agriculture in Shri Padthathi, he had a passion for enterprise. He considered the fact that people from the coastal belt of the state were successful in the food industry in the places that they had migrated to, but they missed the flavours of the authentic masalas of their hometowns, especially Kundapura. This motivated him to start the manufacture of masala powders.
Kundapura Chicken Masala is the flagship product of Nana Agro Industries. The specialty of this product is that the masalas are dry-fried, which retains their flavours irrespective of the location and style of preparation. Dry-frying supports the mixing of the masalas in any cooking oil. Premium ingredients are used and these are powdered by hand, a method that is followed to this day, without compromise.
Initially we marketed Nana Shetty Masalas in Udupi, Kundapura, Mangalore, Ankola and neighboring areas and slowly diversified to Bangalore. Our loyal customers are our biggest brand ambassadors and helped us become a household name in all these areas and beyond. In 1998 we were successful in extending our markets to Mumbai, especially through the support of the hotel owners of the region.
